1.) The description of the commercial is vitally important because it makes the reader see it from the author point-of-view. The reader can also visualize the article to understand what they are trying to say throughout the article.
2.) The major rhetorical appeal they use is pathos because it focuses on sex appeal which goes along with emotional appeal.
3.) Leader argues that in most commercials it is the females who clean or approve of how clean the products are, therefore the commercials have to appeal to the women more than the men.
4.) Analyzing a television commercial is basically what you see is what you get, whereas when analyzing political speeches there are hidden meanings behind what they really want to say. They use play-on-words and other rhetorical devices to sell themselves to the audience. Newspapers can be biased, so you have to analyze what the other half would be or the other part of the story.

    1. Having the first paragraph be a blow-by-blow account allows the reader the opportunity to understand whether the two men are washing the dishes for the purpose of proving a point or for the actual purpose of getting them clean.
    2. One of the most evident rhetorical appeals in the commercial is Ethos.
    3. The argument is that the ads are focused around women because they are seen as the top cleaners of the house and the ones in charge of cleanliness of the home. She argues that this commercial has the men of the house just trying to make a competition out of it, whereas the wife/mother is trying to find the best way to make the dishes as clean as possible.
    4. The difference in conducting a rhetorical analysis of a commercial versus that of a political speech or web site is that most commercials use sexism and sometimes racism to sell their products. Whereas most political sources or web sites try their best to avoid sexism and racism when releasing something to the public.

    4. Conducting a rhetorical analysis of a television advertisement is different than a political speech because a speech is supposed to have a logical appeal, and rarely an emotional appeal, to the audience; a commercial is primarily based upon appeals to ethos and pathos. A website or newspaper can be used to explain or inform a group without selling something to the group.
